Rhythmic Ribbons

Rhythmic Ribbons

Why not try out our simple ribbon activity?

Chinese ribbon dancing is a traditional art form that originates in ancient China. Using sharp, rhythmic movements and long colourful ribbons, dancers perform to traditional Chinese music.

Ribbons are also used in gymnastics. Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport in which gymnasts perform on a floor with an apparatus: hoop, ball, clubs, ribbon, or rope. It became an official Olympic sport in 1984!

The key to mastering the ribbon is to try and draw big fluid shapes, patterns, and designs in the air - that your students can join to make your own unique routine.

This aspect of gymnastics is suitable for all ages and abilities.

Compulsory elements for gymnastics competitions with the ribbon include flicks, circles, snakes and spirals, and throws!
